Everyday Justice – art, films and stories on accessing justice in Myanmar

On 15 November, Everyday Justice, a unique exhibition of artwork, films and stories on access to justice in Myanmar opened at the iconic Old Tourist Burma Building in Yangon. The exhibition marks the first four years of the EU-funded MyJustice project. This exhibition showcases perspectives on what justice means in Myanmar and the role everyone has in shaping it. Myanmar artists KO Z, BRANG LI, HTEIN LIN, EMILY PHYO, MAUNG YU PY, KAUNG SU participate in the exhibition which will run until 30 November 2019.

In the presence of MyJustice campaign ambassador and popular Myanmar movie star Zenn Kyi, and member of the Union Legal Aid Board U Kyaw Soe Bo, EU Ambassador Kristian Schmidt opened the exhibition, highlighting the important work of MyJustice in helping access to justice for poor, vulnerable and marginalised communities across the country. MyJustice works with over fifty partner organisations providing such essential services as free legal aid through justice centres and assistance by paralegals.

Everyday Justice shows the stories behind MyJustice’s work through short films, installations, photography, art and stories. The exhibition was curated by MYANM/ART and is a testimony to the value of arts and culture in shaping public debates and conversations that are at the heart of a vibrant democracy.

Everyday Justice runs from 15 until 30 November 2019, from 10am to 7pm at the Old Tourist Burma Building.
