European Union visit to Rocha and Treinta y Tres

Ambassador Karl-Otto König and EU Member State Ambassadors to Uruguay will visit the Uruguayan Departments of Rocha and Treinta y Tres.

On Monday 11, Tuesday 12 and Wednesday 13 November, EU Head of Delegation Karl-Otto König and a number of EU Member Statethe Ambassadors will visit Rocha and Treinta y Tres to strengthen EU ties with both Departments, learn first hand about the local socio-economic reality, and outline the objectives and activities of the European Union and its Member States in Uruguay.

In both Departments, the Ambassadors will meet with the Governors and their local government teams, to foster relations and learn of the challenges and opportunities that each Department faces.

The visit will begin on Monday 11 in Rocha, where Governor Aníbal Pereyra and his team will welcome the visitors at the resort of La Pedrera.

An official meeting with the local authorities of Rocha will take place at the María Elida Marquizo Cultural Center on Tuesday 12 during the morning. After the meeting, the EU Ambassador and the Governor of Rocha will inform the media of the most relevant aspects discussed during their exchange.

To learn the challenges that the local private sector faces, the visiting delegation will then meet with a group of the most relevant businessmen of Rocha.

The agenda also includes a visit to CURE, an academic institution located in the city of Rocha, where the delegation will be received by Director Javier Vitancurt.

Closing its visit to Rocha, the delegation will visit the port of La Paloma and the Rocha Lagoon - which is part of the National System of Protected Areas - where "Cocina de la Barra", a community and associative venture by the of Coastal Lagoons Artisanal Fishermen Association (APALCO) in which nine female fishermen participate, is based.

On Wednesday 13, the delegation will move to the Department of Treinta y Tres, where it will tour the Arrozur S.A. plant located in Villa Sara, which is the first parboiled rice plant in the country.

Subsequently, the visitors will make an official visit to the local authorities, being received by Governor Ramón Da Silva and his local government team at the House of Culture of Treinta y Tres. Relevant actors from the local productive and business sector, civil society and the political sector will participate in this meeting. After the meeting, the EU Ambassador and the Governor of Treinta y Tres will inform the media of the most relevant aspects discussed during their exchange.
