Hundreds of Rwandan's participated in the 'Jog & Bike for Climate' event, organized by the European Union, as part of its Climate Diplomacy Week in Rwanda.
The event took place on Sunday 6 October 2019 during the Car Free Day organised twice a month by the City of Kigali.
During the event, Ambassador Bellomo urged the participants to be active in the global climate change discussion. The Ambassador also said that the EU and Rwanda are both extremely vulnerable to climate change, and expressed commitment to work together with the government of Rwanda and Rwandans to respond to climate change.
The EU Climate Diplomacy Week in Rwanda took place between September 23rd and October 6th and focused on spreading awareness about the importance of stopping climate change and the role of youth in promoting urgent climate actions. The initiative brought together relevant Rwandan actors involved in climate change and youth empowerment.
To support the voice of Rwanda's youth in these discussions, the EU also collaborated with a local Rwandan CSO 'The Green Fighter' in the organization of 'Global Goals Jam Kigali 2019' from 20-22 September 2019. The three-day event focused on bringing together youth across Rwanda to design ideas that can contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. A particular focus of the event has been directed on water and climate change, migration, electronic waste, and sustainable development for people and the planet.
