EU Ambassador to Korea delivers Keynote Speech "Just Transition in Europe" at 2019 International Conference on Coal Phase-out and Climate Action

Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Korea Michael Reiterer delivered a keynote speech at the 2019 International Conference on Coal Phase-out and Climate Change held at Splas Resort, Deoksan in Chung-nam, Korea on 22 October.

On behalf of the European Union, Ambassador Michael Reiterer talked about how the EU is making a clean and just transition in Europe in the attendance of Governor Yang Seung-jo of South Chungcheong Province, Chairman Ban Ki-moon of the Council of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and Chairman Yun Hwang of the ChungNam Institute. He said "since the Paris Agreement in 2015, we now know very well that climate change acts as a threat with serious implications for peace, security, health and economic development across the globe." He added that "the EU intends to step up its climate efforts by adopting the Europea nGreen Deal" which will increase the emissions reduction target for 2030 and potentially set a new objective for the EU of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050.
