The European Union presents its sincere condolences to the families of the victims of today’s terror attack on Muslims attending their weekly prayers at a mosque in Nangahar province. We wish a speedy recovery to those injured.
The attack aims at undermining hopes for peace and reconciliation, and sadly adds to the record-high levels of civilian casualties in Afghanistan during the third quarter of 2019. These figures indicate the urgent need for all parties to overcome violent conflict and protect civilians from harm. The European Union remains steadfast in supporting all initiatives breaking this spiral of violence and leading to lasting peace and stability for the people of Afghanistan.
