Traineeships in Delegations

Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Ukraine?

What we offer?

A traineeship of 4 months within the Political Section of the EU Delegation to Ukraine, starting in September 2019. The traineeship can be extended to a maximum period of six months, depending on the availability of funds.

The Political Section of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine is in charge of developing analysis and recommendations for HQ related to:

  • political developments in the country;
  • the reform process, including the implementation of the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine;
  • Ukraine's foreign and security policies;
  • the conflict in eastern Ukraine, its socio-economic consequences, and diplomatic efforts to solve it.

The intern will be fully embedded in the work of the section, receive direct exposure to the EU activities in Ukraine, and be provided with a unique occasion to understand from inside the work of an EU Delegation in a third country.

Main tasks:

development of analysis of political landscape in Ukraine, in particular with regard to the new Parliament and Government;

  • Data gathering and analysis of social and economic indicators in the country;
  • Participate in internal and external meetings/events and report about them;
  • Assist the work of the Political Section as necessary.

Qualifications or special requirements (an asset):

  • Bachelor degree in international relations, political science, sociology, economics or related field;
  • Completed or ongoing master studies in international relations or related field;
  • Very good command of Ukrainian and Russian language;
  • Very good command of spoken and written English;
  • Very good command of main IT editing and presentation software;
  • Proven interest for EU affairs and neighbourhood policies;
  • Good networking and interpersonal skills;
  • Capacity to work independently, with attention to details;
  • Experience in parliamentary affairs;
  • Knowledge of Ukraine's institutional system and political landscape;
  • Experience in analysis of economic and sociological data;
  • Experience in working in a team and in coordinating inputs from various colleagues.

Important information

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travel inside the country of residence, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Visa: The working conditions and the status of the trainee in the host country should be in full conformity with the local legislation. Hence, maximal possible time to do the internship for EU citizens is restricted within 90 days (no visa required period) unless an EU citizen candidate already resides in Ukraine. The internship period shall be limited by the official term of such residency. The Delegation cannot provide any visa support for a candidate who intends to do internship at the Delegation. Expatriate trainees have to register with their national Consulate or Embassy or any other resident diplomatic representation competent for their nationality.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
