The realistic exercise scenarios simulated the diversion hijacking of a fuel tanker, an attack on a car convoy transporting VIPs from the airport as well as a commando attack on the accommodation quarters of summit guests.
All participating security forces stood under the command of the Regional Operations Centre (COR), which is under the authority of the governor of Niamey. The COR has been established and equipped by EUCAP Sahel.
The exercise – jointly led by EUCAP Sahel Niger and the French Embassy - will assist the Nigerien internal security forces to better manage the security aspects of the African Union summit in Niamey from 6 to 9 July.
Launched in 2012 EUCAP Sahel Niger supports the Nigerien security forces through training and advice to fight terrorism, organised crime and irregular migration in an integrated, sustainable and human rights-centred manner. The Mission employs around 180 staff.
