EUAM Iraq met with the KRG High Council of Women Affairs, Independent Human Rights Commission and civil society in Erbil

For the second time, a delegation of four strategic advisers of the EUAM Iraq traveled for three days to Erbil in the Mission’s continued efforts to further the European Union’s comprehensive approach to civilian security sector reform.

The delegation met with representatives of the Kurdistan Regional Government High Council of Women Affairs and Independent Human Rights Commission, The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), as well as the Jiyan Foundation for Human Rights, Kurdistan Human Rights Watch, and the Rasan Foundation. EUAM Iraq does not only focus on institutional reform of governmental security actors but uses a holistic approach to work with other regional government offices and civil society organizations in the Kurdistan Region as well. 

The advisers introduced the Mission, shared their experiences, and discussed the role and impact of security sector reform in Iraq with their counterparts. 

EUAM Iraq is continuing its efforts in the Kurdistan Region at the invitation of the Ministry of Interior and will send strategic advisers on regular basis to the Kurdistan Region.
