Exactly two months ago, all the Foreign ministers and the Interior ministers were entering in this building after the death of 900 people at sea in the Mediterranean. And we were all saying that we needed a European response. Exactly two months after, I will today propose to the Ministers to adopt the decision to launch the naval operation to attack the smugglers and the traffickers and dismantle the business model. Obviously this is only one part of our strategy, we will talk about that later on during the day. But I am impressed by unanimity and speed at which we have managed to put this in place.

Today we will also have the first ever discussion among Foreign ministers on energy. As we know this is becoming more and more a foreign policy issue.

We will also have a meeting with Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on an important year for United Nations.

And we will have a strategic discussion on Asia and also points of discussion on the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and on the Middle East peace process following my and other Ministers' trips to the region.

At the end of the Foreign Affairs Council, we will also have a meeting here, I will chair a meeting with the Foreign minister of Iran, Minister Zarif, and my three colleagues from Germany, France and the UK to discuss the main issues open as we are entering the last stage of negotiations on the Iranian nuclear deal.
