Statement by the Spokesperson on the attacks against civilians in the Central African Republic

Text

Dozens of civilians were killed this week by the armed group '3R' in the north-west of the Central African Republic. The perpetrators of these targeted and premeditated attacks must be brought to justice.

The European Union joins the African Union, the United Nations and other partners in condemning these massacres. We extend our condolences to the families of the victims.

These abusive acts represent a serious violation of the peace and reconciliation agreement signed in Bangui on 6 February 2019 and may also constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity.

In line with their commitments, armed groups must immediately and unconditionally proceed to disarm, demobilise and end all violence, in accordance with the peace agreement.

The European Union will continue to stand by the State and people of the Central African Republic in support of the implementation of the peace agreement, stability and the fight against impunity.
