Under the theme “A Europe that delivers: strengthening our united project”, the Delegation organized a panel discussion at the premises of the OECD in Paris. Mr. Rupert Schlegelmilch, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the OECD and the UNESCO, opened the discussion and Mr. Angel Gurria, Secretary General of the OECD, introduced the themes for the debate.
The speakers, Mr. Ismaël Emelien, former policy advisor to Emmanuel Macron; Mrs. Laurence Tubiana, CEO of the European Climate Foundation; Mr. Jean-Louis Bourlanges, former member of the European Parliament; Mr. Bernard Spitz, president of the French Insurance Federation and Chair of the Europe and International cluster to MEDEF; and Mr. Angel Gurria, highlighted some of the most relevant achievements of the European Union over the past 60 years, such as the Erasmus Programme; the European Union as an uncontestable green leader; or the European’s own fundamental values. They also made references to the greater challenges that the European Union faces nowadays, such as the migration issues or the disaffection of some citizens with the European project.
Moreover, the attendants had the opportunity to receive a report that the OECD launched a few days before,“The European Union: a people-centered agenda”, which details from an external perspective the most important achievements delivered by the European Union to its citizens over the years
