The European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) in Iraq assists the Iraqi authorities in tackling illicit trafficking and destruction of cultural goods, as part of its advisory efforts on countering terrorism and organized crime.
The Mission's Senior Strategic Advisor, Michael Hellensberg participated in a panel discussion on protecting Cultural Heritage Policies and Strategies.
This was the first time that the OIC Festival invited an EU Institution to participate. The OIC is the second largest intergovernmental organisation after the United Nations with a membership of 57 states spread over 4 continents. The Festival seeks to promote Islamic and human values which all call for tolerance and peaceful coexistance in all forms and activities.
At the end of the Festival, Mr Michael Hellensberg and EU Ambassador to the UAE, H.E Patrizio Fondi, each received plaques of appreciation from the organisers of the festival.
