EUAM Iraq was invited as a guest speaker to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) festival taking place on 24-27 April in Abu Dhabi. The Missions senior strategic adviser Michael Hellensberg participated in a panel discussion on Protecting Cultural Heritage Policies and Strategies. He also met with several external partners and discussed the national CVE Strategy, which the Government of Iraq has been developing to prevent radicalisation and a resurgence of violent extremism since the Iraqi Security Forces’ victory against Da’esh last year. EUAM Iraq has been supporting the drafting process of the strategy through strategic advice and continues to support the implementation face.

This was the first time that the OIC-festival invited an EU institution to the event. The OIC is the second largest inter-governmental organization after the United Nations with a membership of 57 states spread over four continents. The festival seeks to promote Islamic and human values which all call for tolerance and peaceful coexistence in all forms and activities.
