EUAM Iraq welcomed the Ambassador of Canada to Iraq Mr. Paul Gibbard and the delegation from Ottawa, led by Ms. Larisa Galadza, Director General of the Canadian Peace and Stabilization Operations Program.
During the meeting, the delegation received an overview regarding the Mission’s activity, and discussed the deployment of Canadian police officers to the Mission. In addition, both sides discussed various possibilities of collaborating closely in security sector reform related projects. A special focus was on projects related to women, peace, and security. Canada has received more than 37,000 Iraqi refugees over the past 15 years, including 1,400 survivors of ISIS, many of whom are Yezidis.
The Mission is looking forward to welcoming the first Canadian police officer soon.
Canadian military has the command of the NATO’s training mission in Iraq. The NATO mission has 580 personnel, including 250 Canadian soldiers and four CH-146 Griffon helicopters.
