On 4 March EUAM Iraq attended the International Gender Group (IGG) and concurrent EU Ambassadors meeting, which was hosted by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI). The IGG is a coordination mechanism of the international community for advancing the women, peace and security agenda, in line with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325.
The Special Representative for Iraq of the United Nations Secretary-General, Ms. Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, who chaired the meeting, noted that it was important that the IGG promoted common messages to amplify women’s voices. During the meeting participants discussed efforts to increase women’s role in decision making in Iraq, the implementation of the National Action Plan on 1325, preparations for the Anti-Domestic Violence Law as well as civil documentation issues of internally displaced people (IDPs).
