We met last time in Brussels when the Minister [Workneh Gebeyehu] was accompanying the Prime Minister [Abiy Ahmed] on his first official visit to the European Union. And today we had a good opportunity to follow up on that visit.
In particular we discussed cooperation between Ethiopia and the European Union in many different fields. We support the work that the Government of Ethiopia is doing with all our tools, political strength and financial support.
Ethiopia has a bold reform agenda both on political, economic and social reforms and also the approach that Ethiopia is taking to the region. This is also the European approach of building bridges, overcoming difficulties of the past. It is never easy but always leads us to a better time.
We have discussed ways in which the EU can accompany more reconciliation and integration in the region, bilaterally with Ethiopia’s neighbouring countries and also through increased support and partnership with IGAD.
We have also discussed cooperation we can have in key sectors like counter terrorism and the work of security and also economic cooperation between the EU and Ethiopia.
I’m very satisfied with the meeting we had and we will continue working together in all these sectors. I will continue to discuss this these issues tomorrow with the Prime Minister.
As always, I’m very glad to be back in Addis Ababa not only for the African Union Summit but also for the bilateral visit.
