EU Chargé d'Affairs a.i., Anne Marchal was amongst the panellists today who discussed challenges and opportunities in the context of a reshaped media at the launching ceremony of "Media lab" by the Media Matters for Democracy. The Media Lab is an incubator and start-up accelerator for tech-based digital media start-ups — the first of its kind in Pakistan.

Congratulating Media Matters for Democracy on the event, EU Chargé d'Affairs a.i. Anne Marchal also highlighted EU policies to maintain net neutrality, the importance of ensuring a good regulatory framework and guidelines to harness the potential and referred to EU experiences ranging to prevent hate speech, disinformation, or sales of fake products on internet, pointing out at the cooperation with civil society and private sector. The EU has also noted the importance of the digital economy as a driver for growth, offering support with initiatives such as Startup Europe, a one stop shop for such companies. She also reminded the corpus of existing research in the area as well as opportunities for research and innovation funding under Horizon 2020, to which Pakistani entities are invited to avail.
