The EU diplomats will discuss with H.E. Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalek Saeed and other government officials the challenges facing Yemen at the political, humanitarian, economic and security level. The delegation will further meet local authority officials, representatives of civil society, women activists and members of the business community. Moreover, visits to a number of health facilities and economic enterprises in the port city are planned.
The EU and its member States are among Yemen’s top donors, notably in areas of humanitarian aid, primary healthcare, food security, livelihoods and rural resilience. The visit underscores the EU-continued support for Yemen and its people, encouraging the government to take bold steps to jump-start the Yemeni economy and improve the livelihoods of its people. For this to become a reality, the war must come to an end and peace must prevail all over Yemen. The EU Ambassadors reiterate their firm support for the UN-led peace efforts and continue to urge all parties to engage constructively with the UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths.
