Fifth European Union - India Cyber Dialogue takes place in Brussels

On 12 December, the fifth European Union - India Cyber Dialogue took place in Brussels. Topics discussed included respective cyber policies and international cyberspace issues, such as applicability of international law, norms of responsible State behaviour, and confidence building measures, as well as capacity building, cybercrime and respective data protection regimes.

Both the EU and India shared their views on recent developments and identified potential areas for strengthening cooperation. The new EU Strategy on India, adopted on 10 December 2018, highlights cyber security as a joint priority. The regular EU-India Cyber Dialogue is held within the framework of the political and security cooperation.

On the EU side, which also included observers from EU Member States, the Dialogue was chaired by Pawel Herczyński, Director for Security Policy at the European External Action Service. On the Indian side, the Dialogue was chaired by Mr. Upender Singh Rawat, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs of India.
