European Union and India hold annual Counter-Terrorism Political Dialogue

On 12 November 2018, the European Union and India held their annual Counter Terrorism Political Dialogue in Brussels. The discussions focussed on the terrorist threat in Europe, South Asia and the Middle East. The European Union and India underlined the importance of continuing the progress made in defeating Da’esh.

The European Union updated on recent developments in counter-terrorism policies both in Europe and in the EU’s external relations. India and the EU agreed to find ways to enhance bilateral cooperation, for example in the field of countering violent extremism and radicalisation and chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threats. Exchanges further touched on tackling terrorist use of the Internet and countering terrorism financing. India and Europol also agreed to start cooperating where possible. Finally, the EU and India had a fruitful exchange on multilateralism, underlining their full support for the United Nations, the Global Counter Terrorism Forum and other multilateral fora.
