High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini met today with UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women, its causes and consequences, Dubravka Šimonović, in Brussels.
High Representative Mogherini and UN Special Rapporteur Šimonović discussed the status of gender equality globally, at a time when the movement for gender equality and women's empowerment is gaining true global recognition and, paradoxically, a backlash in women’s and girls’ human rights occurs.
High Representative/Vice-President Mogherini reaffirmed the EU's commitment to continue working hand-in-hand with the UN Special Rapporteur as well as other international partners, bilaterally and in multilateral fora, to fight against violence, achieve gender equality and the full enjoyment of all human rights by all women and their empowerment, free from discrimination.
