HR/VP Mogherini meets with David Beasley, Executive Director of the UN World Food Programme

Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, met today in Brussels with David Beasley, Executive Director of the UN World Food Programme (WFP). They discussed the EU – WFP partnership, in particular with regard to WFP operations in Syria, Yemen, Bangladesh, the wider Middle East and the Sahel. The WFP is the main recipient of EU aid to UN entities and, together with its Member States, the EU is now the WFP's largest donor.

To successfully achieve the WFP's strategic focus to eradicate hunger and implement the UN sustainable development goals, food aid must go hand-in-hand with conflict resolution. 

The European Union will continue its close partnership with the WFP and the wider UN system to strengthen multilateralism and assist those in need of international protection.
