The EU funded project "Support for Further Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development in Turkmenistan (Phase III)" was launched in 2016, registered in 2017 and will run until 2020.

Capacity building workshop for Quarantine Department of the Ministry of Agriculture within the EU funded project "Support for Further Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development in Turkmenistan (Phase III)" took place in Ashgabat on 3 April 2018.

Through this project, the EU is continuing its support to economic diversification in Turkmenistan with special focus on developing private sector agro-food production for import substitution and export development, in line with the Turkmenistan's Government plan for socio-economic development of the country.

Duration of the project is four years (until 2020), its budget is EUR 3.45 million, and it is implemented by a consortium led by Cardno Emerging markets Belgium s.a.

The Head of the EU Liaison Office in Turkmenistan Mr. Lubomir Frebort highlighted in his address to the participants of the workshop that the President of Turkmenistan in his speech at the inauguration session of the newly elected Majlis on 30 March 2018 pointed out that the legislative support to the development of private sector and agro-food production for import substitution is among the important tasks of the newly elected deputies. This once again confirms that this EU funded project fully corresponds to the priority areas of the socio-economic development of Turkmenistan, defined by the country's President and his Cabinet.
