High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini had her first meeting with the newly appointed Foreign Minister of the Republic of Colombia, Carlos Holmes Trujillo today in Brussels.
The High Representative and Foreign Minister Holmes Trujillo took stock of the excellent bilateral relations between the European Union and Colombia and agreed on the need to further strengthen their links in several areas, including within the framework of the Pacific Alliance.
Both stressed the importance of implementing the Peace Agreement and the High Representative reiterated the EU’s commitment to support Colombia on its path towards sustainable peace, for the benefit of the Colombian people.
The situation in Venezuela and the difficult conditions faced by many Venezuelans inside and outside the country were also discussed, as well as the challenges the crisis in Venezuela entails for countries in the region.
High Representative Federica Mogherini confirmed to Foreign Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo her readiness to working closely together with him, as well as with the new government of Colombia on further deepening the long-standing EU-Colombian partnership.
