Text

The 15-minute documentary film tells the stories of urban refugees living in Southeast Asia - a region whose economy is thriving, and population booming. However, living as a refugee can be a struggle. Refugees feel vulnerable, powerless and often invisible.

Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand are not signatory to international refugee conventions and do not have laws specific to the protection of refugees. Refugees and asylum seekers are often considered illegal, and are at constant risk of arrest and detention if they are without valid documentation.

The film portrays the reality of day-to-day life for refugee families in three cities in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. The film was produced by UNHCR, the UN refugee agency, with the support of the European Union's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Operations (ECHO).
