The EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova has rewarded excellence in civil society initiatives financed by the European Union

For the first time, the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova has launched an annual competition of awards for civil society initiatives. The first edition of the competition was completed by an Awards Gala which recognized the excellency of initiatives implemented with the support of the European Union.

The European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova launches the EU prizes for the civil society in the country, to reward and encourage tangible achievements and initiatives by civil society organisations at national, regional and local levels that made a lasting and positive impact on the Republic of Moldova’s democracy, economic development and social cohesion and promoted European values (funded by the European Union).

Support to Civil Society is a key element of the European Neighbourhood Policy with a view to strengthen and promote its role in reforms and democratic changes taking place and its capacity to engage with public authorities of the Republic of Moldova.

All civil society organisations that received support through the various EU initiatives and programmes, directly or indirectly (through support to third parties) such as the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR), the Non-State Actors and Local Authorities thematic programme (NSA-LA or CSO-LA), the ENI Civil Society Facility, the Confidence Building Measures Programme (CBM) or others, were invited to sign up or be publicly nominated for the awards competition.

The following organizations were awarded per categories:

Democracy and good governance award – to the Foundation Terre des Hommes Moldova, for the implementation of the project "Strengthening the Capacity of Law Enforcement, Inter-Agency Coordination and Civil Society Organisations to Address Discrimination and Ill-Treatment of Children within the Justice System in the Republic of Moldova" 2013-2015

Cohesive community award – to the NGO Keystone Moldova, for the implementation of the project "Public-private partnership for the sustainable development of locally governed disability services: supporting decentralization reform" 2012-2014

Inclusive economic growth award – to the NGO "Regional Development Agency" from Tiraspol, for the implementation of the project "Building business relations of the hotel industry on both banks of the Dniester" CBM 2016-2017

Confidence building award – to the NGO Chamber of Commerce and Industry from Tiraspol and the NGO Business Consulting Institute, for the joint implementation of the project "Creating job opportunities through support to young people in the security zone for initiating a business" CBM 2015-2017

Local initiative award – to the NGO Colaborare from Edinet, for the implementation of a part of the project "Civil society Local Energy Efficiency Network - CLEEN" (2015-2017 Regional project covering Armenia, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine)

Besides the 5 categories of the competition, the jury also decided to award two Special Mention:

Special Mention for communication and visibility – to the NGO AGER, Centre for Journalist Investigations (CIJM) and the local NGO Association for Human Rights Lex XXI from Balti, for the implementation of the project "Public money is my money" 2015-2017

Special Mention for advocacy for change – to the NGO Legal Resource Centre of Moldova (CRJM), for the implementation of the project "Promoting Equality - Strengthening the Agents of Change" 2014-2016
