On 12 July, Ambassador Rensje Teerink attended the official launch of the Platforms for Dialogue (P4D) project alongside Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam and other Government of Bangladesh officials, international development partners, civil society and media representatives.
P4D promotes the participation of citizens and civil society in decision-making and strives to improve accountability mechanisms in partnership with the Government of Bangladesh. The three-year project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the British Council in 21 Districts across Bangladesh and at the national level.
At the District level, P4D supports civil society and local government through training on accountability as well as effective engagement and dialogue on local policy issues.
At the national level, P4D will build government institutions' capacity to deliver on the accountability provisions set out in the 7th Five Year Plan, the National Integrity Strategy, the Right to Information Act 2009, Citizens’ Charters and the Grievance Redress System.
New tools and policy platforms will be developed, both at the regional and national level, for effective and transparent government-civil society engagement on policy matters.
