Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, met today the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al Hamad Al Sabah, on the occasion of his visit to Brussels.

High Representative/Vice-President Mogherini and Sheikh Sabah discussed the situation in the Gulf and Mogherini reiterated the EU's continued support to the Kuwaiti mediation efforts led by His Highness the Emir.

They also exchanged views on bilateral relations, agreeing to give a new impulsion to the implementation of the sectoral aspects of the Cooperation Arrangement signed between the EEAS and the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry in July 2016. Mogherini expressed the EU's willingness to increase its diplomatic presence in Kuwait and continue to deepen the bilateral ties.

They also touched upon regional issues, including Iraq, Yemen, Syria, Iran and the EU’s continued commitment to the Iran nuclear deal and the Middle East Peace Process.
