This EU-funded project supports the institutional development of the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) to better fulfil its mandate and contribute to the provision of rights by the Government of Egypt to its citizens as provided for in the 2014 Constitution.

Description:

  • The main stakeholders of the project are all the relevant cooperation partners of the NCHR with regard to protecting and promoting human rights, including several ministries, universities, youth centres and the media. At the international level, the cooperation between the NCHR and other National Human Rights Institutions in Europe and the MENA region will be favoured. The final beneficiaries of the project are the citizens of Egypt, particularly vulnerable groups, such as women, children, persons with disabilities, religious minorities, persons of different sexual orientations, as well as refugees, asylum seekers and migrants.

Objectives:

  • This EU-funded project supports the institutional development of the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) to better fulfil its mandate and contribute to the provision of rights by the Government of Egypt to its citizens as provided for in the 2014 Constitution.
  • The project also aims at reinforcing NCHR legal assistance and complaints services as well as instilling greater awareness on human rights in Egypt.
