Conflict Resolution in the 21st Century: the case of Colombia

Nearly 1.5 years ago, the Colombian Government and the FARC-EP (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia – Ejército Popular) concluded a peace agreement, putting an end to 52 years of armed conflict, the oldest on-going armed conflict in the Americas. This agreement was a major achievement not only for Colombia, but also for Latin America and the rest of the world, and it was recognised by the Nobel Peace Committee.

With the objective of celebrating the achievement of peace in Colombia and renewing the EU commitment to this process, a special event on lessons from the Colombian peace agreement will be hosted at BOZAR in the morning of 31 May. Among the distinguished guests, Ms Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Juan Manuel Santos, President of the Republic of Colombia, and Mr Rodrigo Londoño, President of the Fuerza Alternativa Revolucionaria del Común party/Former leader of FARC-EP in the Colombian peace negotiations.
