Traineeships in Delegations

Are you a young graduate interested in international relations?  
Are you curious to learn more about a work in a diplomatic mission and how an EU Delegation represents EU interests and values?


What do we offer?

  A traineeship of 6 months within the Legal Section of the Delegation of the EU in Strasbourg.


Main tasks:

  • Supervision of the execution of the ECHR judgements, follow the CMDH meetings, and drafting of the Weekly Digest of Judgements by the ECtHR
  • Follow the developments of the reform of the ECtHR, cooperation ECtHR/ECJ and the EU accession to ECHR and other CoE Conventions
  • Contribute to the compilation of EUDEL weekly report
  • Participate in the Committee of Ministers deputie's meetings and the EU HoMs coordination meetings, preparing summaries and reporting
  • Attend meetings, reporting and following key dossiers of the Rapporteur Group GR-J – Legal Co-Operation, Independence and efficiency of Justice, Prisons and Police, Common Standards and policies, Corruption and threats to the Rule of Law, Regional and Minority languages
  • Follow the thematic of death penalty, judicial issues, torture, trafficking of human beings;


General tasks:


  • Follow in general the activity of the CoE and subsidiary bodies, namely the Committee of Ministers, European Court to Human Rights, PACE, Congress of Regional and Local Authorities, Commissioner for Human Rights, Venice Commission, etc;
  • Research and preparation of documents and notes;
  • Drafting meeting minutes, speaking points, briefings and notes
  • Get access to meetings, press-conferences and other events that could be of interest;
  •  Assistance to the organisation of events and official visits


The interns will have a Traineeship Adviser, responsible for their guidance, monitoring and evaluation.

for traineeships (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 - Paid traineeship for young graduates)


Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. However costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation and visa must be borne by the trainee.


Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
