The EU also organised a well-attended side event to present its assistance activities in support of the CTBT.

Izumi Nakamitsu, the UN Under Secretary General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, emphasized the importance of the CTBT and thanked the EU for its efforts to support the Treaty's entry into force. The CTBTO Executive Secretary, Lassina Zerbo, expressed his appreciation for the EU's continued funding which has been instrumental in strengthening the verification and monitoring capabilities of the CTBTO to detect nuclear weapon test explosions. Jacek Bylica, the EU Special Envoy for Disarmament and Non-proliferation, confirmed that promoting universalisation and the early entry into force of the CTBT are a top priority during the ongoing NPT review cycle. All 28 EU Member States have ratified the CTBT and call on other countries to follow suit.
