Yesterday, terrorism struck again at the UN mission in Mali (MINUSMA). As a result, two Chadian peacekeepers lost their lives and several others were injured. The attack on MINUSMA’s Aguelhok camp in northern Mali is an attack against all those who are committed to restoring peace and stability in Mali. Its perpetrators must be stopped and brought to justice. The European Union also points out that those responsible for or complicit in the attacks against international peacekeeping forces, such as yesterday's incident, fall under the sanctions established in United Nations Security Council Resolution 2374 (2017).
The European Union extends its condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and the people of Chad, and wishes a speedy recovery to those injured. We reiterate our support for MINUSMA and our full commitment to supporting the efforts of Mali and of the G5 Sahel countries for peace, security and development in the country and the region.
