Southern African Development Community-EU Ministerial Political Dialogue 2018
"Equal partnership, shared ownership, responsibility and reciprocity": SADC-EU Ministerial Political Dialogue looks to modernization and delivers joint commitments on global, African and regional issues
The first SADC-EU Ministerial Political Dialogue since 2015 was held on 28 March 2018 in Pretoria, co-chaired on one side by Foreign Minister of Angola Manuel Augusto - accompanied by "troika" ministers and senior officials of both SADC itself and the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security, and on the other by Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgaria Ekaterina Zaharieva - accompanied by senior officials of the EEAS and DG DEVCO.
A wide-ranging discussion encompassed political and security challenges both in Southern Africa and the European Union, economic issues - focused on growth, youth and employment, continental and global issues such as migration, climate change and maritime security, and finally strategic perspectives, focused on the "post-Cotonou" process and the follow-up to the 2017 African Union-European Union Summit. The joint statement of the Dialogue can be read here."
