Federica Mogherini announces senior appointments in the EEAS

Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice President of the European Commission, announced today senior appointments in the European External Action Service (EEAS):


Mr Fernando Gentilini as the new EEAS Managing Director for the Middle East and North Africa. He is currently serving as EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process, and was previously Director for Western Europe, the Western Balkans and Turkey within the EEAS as well as EU Special Representative in Kosovo.


Ms Belén MARTINEZ CARBONELL as the new EEAS Human Resources Director. She is currently serving as Head of the Policy Coordination Division within the EEAS, and was previously dealing with relations with the Andean Countries and a member of the Cabinet of the Commissioner in charge of External Relations and Neighbourhood Policy among others.


Mr. Björn LARSSON as new EEAS Director Security and Infrastructure. He served until recently as Human Resources Director within the EEAS, while previously he worked on Middle East issues in the Policy Unit of the General Secretariat of the Council, and also dealt with and served in the Middle East.


Mr. Philippe RUYS as the new EEAS Director for Budget and Support. He is currently a Head of the Information Technology Division within the EEAS. He previously served as Information Resource Manager within the European Commission.


Ms Patricia LLOMBART CUSSAC as the Head of EU Delegation to Colombia. Until taking over the post, she was a Director for Security, Budget and Information Technology within the EEAS. She previously dealt with relations with Iran, Iraq the Gulf countries and Yemen. She was a member of the Cabinets of a Commission Vice-President and a Commissioner in charge of External Relations.
