Head of the European Union Delegation to Yemen Antonia Calvo-Puerta visits Sana’a

Text

The Head of the EU Delegation to Yemen Antonio Calvo-Puerta is currently visiting Sana’a as part of the EU’s efforts to reach out to all Yemeni parties to encourage them to engage in a credible, all-inclusive dialogue to reach a political settlement for the crisis in Yemen.

Ambassador Calvo said: “It is my pleasure to be back again in Sana’a as part of our efforts to reach out to all Yemeni parties to encourage them to engage in talks to find a durable political settlement. We will also be delivering here in Sana'a some humanitarian messages, as we have done with other parties to the conflict, as well as raising some human rights issues. The people of Yemen are considerably suffering from this tragic war, which has triggered one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. War has to stop if we want this unprecedented humanitarian crisis to come to an end. The EU strongly supports the UN-led efforts to reach a durable political settlement to the crisis in Yemen and calls on all parties to engage in good faith with the efforts of the new UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffith.”

The EU remains committed to supporting Yemen and its people. It has steadily increased its humanitarian aid since the beginning of the conflict, bringing the total humanitarian aid to €196 million. An additional €71 million will be invested this year in projects for the benefits of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), for the promotion of human rights and for rural resilience and agricultural protection.
