The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini and the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Morocco, Nasser Bourita, have taken note of the ruling issued today by the Court of Justice of the European Union concerning the fisheries agreement between Morocco and the European Union.

The two parties confirm their commitment to the strategic partnership between Morocco and the European Union and their determination to preserve and reinforce it. In this connection, they have agreed to further strengthen their political dialogue and preserve the stability of their trade relations. They note that the spirit of close and sincere consultation that has guided the process of adapting the agricultural agreement has created a valuable reservoir of trust for deepening the partnership. The two parties remain determined to preserve their cooperation in the field of fisheries. In this respect, they express their willingness to negotiate the necessary instruments in relation to the fisheries partnership.

Building on this renewed spirit and trust, the two sides confirm the richness and vitality of the relations between the European Union and Morocco and their full commitment to the continued development of these relations in all areas of mutual interest. These areas include most notably issues of strategic importance such as migration, security, stability and regional development policy as well as scientific research. The two sides have agreed to intensify or expand the numerous cooperation activities already under way in these fields.

The two parties reaffirmed their support for the UN process and for the UN Secretary-General’s efforts to reach a definitive political settlement of this issue.
