The High Representative and Vice President Federica Mogherini met today with the Foreign Minister of Argentina, Jorge Marcelo Faurie, who is in Brussels for discussions on the EU-Mercosur Association Agreement – a deal of strategic relevance for both regions.

The HRVP and the Foreign Minister also exchanged views on a number of topics of common interest such as the EU-CELAC relationship, as well as on the situation in Venezuela. They discussed the positive relations between the EU and Argentina and the policy dialogues that have been launched, as well as the cooperation in the framework of the Joint Committee, the joint decision body that gives strategic orientation to their bilateral relationship, which held its last meeting on 20 March 2017. They went through the main chapters of the EU-Argentina cooperation, including the EIB's resumption of its lending activities in the country and the involvement of Argentina in a number of projects, such as the "Spotlight" initiative to fight violence against women.
