Living conditions are rapidly deteriorating which makes a negotiated political solution a matter of urgency. It is crucial for all sides to seriously engage in negotiations that can lead to concrete implementable results with a view to bring political stability, to address the multiple challenges of the country and, most importantly, to alleviate the suffering of the population.
Solid action is needed to ensure full respect and independence of the democratic institutions; the holding of free and fair elections, including a balanced National Electoral Council and international independent observation; the release of political prisoners and external assistance to address the most urgent needs of the people.
The EU reiterates its full support to a credible negotiation process accompanied by regional "guarantors". All our actions aim at fostering a peaceful and lasting solution to the Venezuelan crisis and to help addressing the needs of the population."
