Statement by the Spokesperson of EU High Representative: General elections in Honduras took place on 26 November in a largely peaceful climate

As highlighted by the EU Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) Preliminary Statement, the legal framework allows the holding of democratic elections, but further electoral reforms should be adopted. The EU stands ready to continue to support Honduras in the strengthening of democracy and the rule of law in the country.

The EU EOM, headed by Chief Observer Marisa Matias, a Member of the European Parliament, has been deployed to Honduras since October and will remain in country until the electoral process is completed.
