The project geared towards building capacity of civil society actors, including human rights defenders, activists, lawyers, Public Councils and media representatives to hold the duty bearers accountable for implementing the rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association (Specific Objective 1). At the same time it will foster dialogue between civil society and the executive, judiciary and legislative, leading to the observance and enforcement of applicable international human rights norms and standards in law and practice (Specific Objective 2).

Implementation period:  24 months (01/02/2017)-31/01/2019).

Total budget: 400 000 EUR (EU contribution 300 000 EUR).

Contractor: United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights  in partnership with NGO Kadir- Kasiet Kogamdyk  and Public Association Public Committee for Human Rights

The project identified the primary target group as civil society actors, including human rights lawyers and defenders, Public Councils, media representatives and other interested parties of civil society such as activists. At the same time – through empowering civil society to effectively interact – the Acton will consistently work with state authorities, including the executive, the judiciary and the legislature. However, all engagement with state authorities will be conducted via civil society channels.

The Action is, therefore, geared towards building capacity of civil society actors, including human rights defenders, activists, lawyers, Public Councils and media representatives to hold the duty bearers accountable for implementing the rights to freedom of expression, peaceful assembly and association (Specific Objective 1). At the same time the Action will foster dialogue between civil society and the executive, judiciary and legislative, leading to the observance and enforcement of applicable international human rights norms and standards in law and practice (Specific Objective 2).
