To really focus on what can collectively be achieved, a '20 deliverables for 2020' vision has been developed to pave the way for progress in each of the four priority areas.
In their Joint Declaration adopted at the Summit, leaders reconfirmed the high importance they attach to the Eastern Partnership, based on common values, mutual interests and understanding, shared ownership and responsibility, differentiation and mutual accountability. They underlined that consolidating and promoting shared values and principles they have committed to is a key priority.
The Summit participants also acknowledged the European aspirations and European choice of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, whose Association Agreements provide for accelerating political association and economic integration with the European Union.
The Joint Declaration also reaffirms the EU's continued commitment to the territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty of all its partners.
The 5th Eastern Partnership Summit was preceded by seven events showcasing the breadth of cooperation the Eastern Partnership brings outside of direct government relations, including with business, civil society, local authorities, youth audiences and media. Specific events included the 3rd Eastern Partnership Youth Forum held in Warsaw in June, discussing the active participation of young people in the decision making processes of government; the 2nd Eastern partnership media conference was held in Kyiv in September, that focussed on media development needs and the importance of professionalisation of journalism in the region; and the Eastern Partnership Business forum that focussed on creating the right business models, governance and structures to encourage digital economies.
The Eastern Partnership was launched in 2009 to promote political association and economic integration between the EU and the six eastern European partner countries.
In the margins of the Summit the EU and Armenia signed a Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.
