This 20th Pre-Deployment Training (PDT) took place from 7 to 10 November 2017 in Brussels and was conducted in co-operation with the Centre for International Peace Operations (Zentrum für internationale Friedenseinsätze - ZIF) of Germany. A total of 22 participants from 10 countries (Belgium, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Romania, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands) used this opportunity to have an enriching exchange of experiences and perceptions; it also allowed for lively and interactive discussions and exercises.

PDT is vital to the maintenance of a common organisational standard for all personnel and helps to develop a common organisational culture. It is linked to the duty of care, as well as ensuring the accountability and credibility of the EU, including through generic standards of behaviour and a code of conduct.

The training was held at the European Security and Defence College in Brussels.

Civilian experts, police officers and military personnel, including the future commander of EUTM CAR, all received the same training, which helps to foster a common understanding of European security and organisational matters. The diversity of the training audience perfectly reflected mission reality on the ground.
