New European Union Ambassador to Fiji Presents Credentials

The new Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation for the Pacific, Ambassador Julian Wilson presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Fiji His Excellency, President Major General (Ret'd) Jioji Konousi Konrote at the State House on Tuesday 26/09/17.

The EU, a long-term partner of Fiji – starting almost 44 years ago -and of the Pacific region in general, shares the country’s ambition to reduce poverty and promote inclusive and sustainable development.

The Ambassador’s efforts will be focused on strengthening the bilateral and regional cooperation and partnerships at all levels in line with the common goals and guiding framework enshrined in the Cotonou Partnership Agreement.

Ambassador Wilson said: “I accepted with great pleasure and honour this posting to your beautiful country. The Fiji - EU relations are at an all-time high both bilaterally and also in our work together on the international stage, as we see now with our cooperation with COP23 and Climate Change. I look forward to working with Fiji over the next four years to deepen our relationship further. ”

Ambassador Wilson, prior to his posting as Head of the EU Delegation for the Pacific was the Acting Deputy Managing Director, Asia and the Pacific at the European External Action Services (EEAS).

He has previously served as the EU Ambassador to Indonesia, Brunei, ASEAN, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.  

Ambassador Wilson is a dual English and French citizen.  He is married to Claudine and has moved to Fiji with their two children.
