Following the terrorist attack in the Libyan town of Guba, I wish to express my condolences to the families of the numerous victims. Those who have committed this attack must be held accountable for their crime.
Terrorism in Libya can only be defeated through the political and institutional determination of a united Libyan government. The Libyan parties should not to miss this last chance, as the window of opportunity is rapidly closing. The UN Special representative for Libya, Bernardino León, has called for a next meeting of the political dialogue to finalise discussions initiated in Geneva on the formation of a government of national unity and security arrangements. It's time for parties to give proof of courage and take upon them the responsibility to ensure to all Libyans a future. In this, they will find the international community at their side.
I stressed on this point today at the ministerial meeting of the Mediterranean Group in Paris. Together with the Foreign ministers of France, Spain, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Greece and Cyprus, we discussed Libya and the other pressing challenges of the Mediterranean region. I shared with the ministers the outcomes of the initiatives I have undertaken in recent days in working for a political solution to the challenges that Libya faces.
We will continue working together with the international community including all the regional partners to ensure these efforts finally bring results.
