The EU Mission to ASEAN and the Thai Mission to ASEAN jointly organised the ASEAN-EU 40th Anniversary Concert on Tuesday (12/9) in Jakarta as an official celebration commemorating the long-standing inter-regional relations between ASEAN and EU.
The year 2017 marks the 40th Anniversary of ASEAN-EU Dialogue Relations as well as the establishment of the EU-ASEAN Dialogue Relations in 1977, 50th Anniversary of ASEAN, and 60 years since the establishment of the European Economic Community, the predecessor of the EU. The Anniversary Concert was held not only because of the 'triple anniversaries', but also because of the fast-growing partnership between the ASEAN and EU.
The EU and ASEAN are today the two most advanced regional integration processes in the world. Both regions, inhabited by more than 1 billion people, represent the most mature and the most promising economies in the world. Both regions work together to address global challenges through a multilateral approach, and both are committed to regional integration as the most effective way to build stability and foster prosperity.
The Anniversary Concert was officially opened by H.E. Phasporn Sangasubana, Permanent Representative of Thailand to ASEAN and H.E. Francisco Fontan, the EU Ambassador to ASEAN.
On the occasion, H.E. Ambassador Francisco Fontan expressed “great satisfaction of joining in the first ever EU-ASEAN Music Concert celebrating 40 years of partnership of our institutions”.
The Anniversary Concert featured performances from several renowned musicians from Europe and Southeast Asia, namely C ASEAN Consonant Ensemble (ASEAN), Fong Jean Ann (Singapore), Radostin Todorov Kirchev (Bulgaria), and Baltic Neopolis Orchestra (Poland) in collaboration with Slaviana Choir (Indonesia).
