Federica Mogherini meets with IAEA Director General Amano and CTBTO Executive Secretary Zerbo
After yesterday's calls with Foreign Minister of Japan, Mr Taro Kono, and Foreign Minister of the Republic of Korea, Ms Kang Kyung-wha, and ahead of an informal meeting of EU Foreign Ministers later this week, Federica Mogherini this afternoon in Bled met CTBTO Executive Secretary Lassina Zerbo and IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano to discuss the latest developments on the Korean Peninsula after the nuclear test carried out by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Sunday.
This latest test is a serious provocation, a grave threat to regional and international security and a major challenge to the global non-proliferation regime. See here the speech by High Representative/Vice President Mogherini at Bled Strategic Forum today. In the meeting with Lassina Zerbo, the High Representative highlighted the support of the European Union for the work of Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organisation (CTBTO). With Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency Federica Mogherini also discussed the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), that is regularly certified by IAEA, most recently at the end of August.
