Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, met today with Aloysio Nunes Ferreira, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.
In the discussion, the High Representative and the Minister reiterated the commitment to the negotiations between the European Union and Mercosur for an Association Agreement that could lead to a political agreement before the end of the year, under Brazil's pro-tempore presidency of Mercosur. The Agreement will provide a solid base for reinforcing our cooperation on international and multilateral issues.
They also reviewed the close cooperation the EU and Brazil developed since the launch of the Strategic Partnership ten years ago which resulted in strong trade and investment relations, science, technology and research cooperation, and the joint work on human rights, environment, climate, energy and internet governance.
Federica Mogherini reiterated the importance of joining efforts in responding to today's global challenges, including climate change and peace and security, investing in the multilaterlal institutions starting from the UN system.
Finally, they discussed regional developments inter alia in Venezuela and in Colombia as well as cooperation with regional organisations.
