Each EU mission works in the framework of a comprehensive approach. The mission works in agreement and coordination with the EU Delegations in the same area and in the framework of EU regional policies.
Ambassador Malgorzata Wasilewska, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Jamaica, Belize, the Bahamas, Turks and Caicos Islands and the Cayman Islands, has emphasised the EU’s firm belief in regional integration as a vital pathway towards sustainable regional growth.
Jamaica and the European Union (EU) conducted their 4th political dialogue on 21 February. Both sides committed to further deepen the collaboration on building a more effective partnership for growth and development. The talks which included 10 Ambassadors from European Member States (Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, Bulgaria, The Netherlands, Poland, Romania and Sweden) were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade (MFAFT) on Wednesday, February 21st.
Julian Robinson, General Secretary of the People’s National Party and Opposition Spokesman on Science and Technology left Jamaica on Saturday February 3 for a two- week study tour to Europe as part of the EU Visitor's Programme (EUVP). Mr Robinson who is also Member of Parliament for South East St. Andrew is one of two political leaders who will participate in the programme this year.
Foreign Minister, Senator the Hon. Kamina Johnson Smith, has announced the upcoming visit of Mr. Stefano Manservisi, Director-General for International Cooperation and Development in the European Commission based in Brussels.
Jamaica's courts are being outfitted with high tech video link and digital audio recording equipment to improve efficiency in the disposal of cases and reduce case backlog.
Through the prison school programme, which receives funding support from the EU, inmates are being given the opportunity to improve their employability and prospects for reintegration upon release.
