The Summit took place against the backdrop of the finalisation of the ratification of the EU – Ukraine Association Agreement, which will fully enter into force on 1 September, and Ukrainian citizens' being granted visa free travel to the Schengen area in June. These achievements are bringing concrete results for the people.
The leaders also welcomed significant progress in Ukraine's implementation of its ambitious reform efforts, despite severe security challenges caused by the ongoing conflict in the east of Ukraine. They stressed the importance of continuing such efforts and strengthening the implementation of reforms in crucial areas such as anti-corruption.
The European Union is dedicating unprecedented support to Ukraine: as Ukraine keeps reforming the EU will keep supporting these efforts.
The EU also reiterated its continued and unwavering support to Ukraine's unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and the need for full implementation of the Minsk Agreements as the basis for a sustainable and peaceful settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
